Keeper Of The Fire đŸ”„

Logs with ashy residue burn over hot fire

“What are the other kinds of fire?” my father asks as he adds a stick to the other fire at his feet.

Taiotoreke knows. “Sacred Fire, like for ceremonies.”

“Of course,” my dad says. The fire we use to carry prayers, for healing, for sweat lodges. That fire represents our life, the spiritual teachings that we’ve had from the very beginning. The Sacred Fire is the symbol of life and spirit, so we have special firekeepers to care for them.

You might not get around those fires very often,” he says, “but there’s fire you must tend to every day. The hardest one to take care of is the one right here,” he says, tapping his finger against his chest. “Your own fire, your spirit. We all carry a piece of that sacred fire within us. We have to honour it and care for it. YOU are the fire keeper.”

This passage from the stunning “Braiding Sweetgrass” gifted to me at the Under the Big Sky Sweat Lodge Retreat (thank you Ali!) beautifully illustrates what Somatic Therapy clients learn through their healing process. The Core Self, the place in you who is unchanging, connected effortlessly to the Divine Spirit, filled with clarity and compassion- is your Sacred Fire đŸ”„ . As we heal we learn to tend our Sacred Fire as required necessity, as in tending our inner fire we allow ourselves to burn as brightly as we were born to do.

Sending love to you all today đŸ’šâ™„ïž
